Delegation of “2017 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Media Summit” Reporting Trip Visits Confucius Institute Headquarters

On December 18th, the delegation of “2017 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Media Summit” Reporting Trip composed of 40 senior reporters from mainstream media visited Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Yu Yunfeng, Deputy Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director-General of Hanban, received the delegation and held a symposium with them.

Yu Yunfeng introduced the basic development status of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, especially the positive impact of the Confucius Institutes in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam on promoting bilateral education and cultural exchanges and cooperation. He said that in the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held recently, it was highly stressed that cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world should be enhanced and that cultural diversity should be respected, which has testified the firm determination of the CPC and the Chinese government on opening up, following a peaceful development road, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and has also provided a historical opportunity, laid a solid foundation and offered a wider platform for the development of the Confucius Institute in the new era. China and the countries of the Mekong region are not only linked by mountains and rivers, but share cultural similarities. He hoped that through joint efforts, we could well tell the stories of the Confucius Institute as well as better build and run the Confucius Institute to make greater contributions to the friendly relationship among Lancang-Mekong countries.

At the symposium, reporters raised questions actively exploration into such issues as “The Construction of Confucius Institute in the Lancang-Mekong Region” and “the Confucius Institute and the Belt and Road Initiative”.

The delegation of the reporting trip comprised of senior reporters from mainstream media in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The aim of their trip was to create a favorable international public opinion atmosphere for the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting to be held in early 2018. The delegation stayed in China for 14 days for interviews and idea exchanges.

As of now, altogether 19 Confucius Institutes and 15 Confucius Classrooms have been established in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
