2018 TCLP of the US Department of State Continues to Recruit Chinese Teachers from China to Teach in American Elementary and Secondary Schools
From March 17th to 19th, with the strong support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, the Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) of the United States (US) Department of State carried out its recruitment of the year 2018 in Beijing Language and Culture University. 17 teachers from 17 Chinese primary and secondary schools were recruited after interviews by Chinese and foreign experts. They will go to the US this July and teach Chinese in elementary and secondary schools.
TCLP, administered by American Councils for International Education (ACIE), is one of the programs launched by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State. ACIE has been in cooperation with the Confucius Institute Headquarters in recruiting teachers from China to teach in the US since 2007. So far, there have been 176 Chinese teachers recruited to teach in American elementary and secondary schools, covering 45,000 students in 35 states of the US. After coming back to China, many of these teachers help promote the establishment of sister school relationships between the schools of China and those of the US.
On February 2nd, 2018, Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of Education and Terry Branstad, US Ambassador to China signed in Peking University the Cooperation Agreement on Teachers of Critical Languages Program of the US Between Ministry of Education of the People¡¯s Republic of China and the United States Department of State.
