Minister Counselor for Education of Chinese Embassy in the UK Wang Yongli Visits Confucius Institute at Cardiff University
On April 18th, local time, the Minister Counselor of Education for the Chinese Embassy in the UK Wang Yongli visited the Confucius Institute at Cardiff University, where he was briefed on the work report in regards to development, teaching and cultural activities, characteristics construction, and the Institute¡¯s integrated development with local primary and secondary schools
The Institute¡¯s Chinese director Lin Lifang introduced the Chinese classes opened for college students and adults and some other special activities such as the Chinese Corner and Calligraphy Clubs in the community.
The foreign director Catherine Chabert introduced the Institute¡¯s achievements under the support of Cardiff University¡¯s international open strategy and the efforts made to help Chinese students quickly adapt to life and challenges of studying abroad.
Wang fully recognized the achievements made by the Confucius Institute at Cardiff University in recent years in Chinese language teaching and cultural promotion, and praised the results of the exchanges and cooperation between Xiamen University and Cardiff University. He pointed out that the Confucius Institute should continue to deepen its cooperation with Cardiff University and the Welsh government to achieve multi-dimensional and in-depth development.
President of Cardiff University Colin Riordan welcomed Wang¡¯s visit. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation and exchanges in education, and strengthening the construction and development of the Confucius Institute. Both sides expressed the willingness for further cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results. Pro Vice-Chancellors Nora de Leeuw, in charge of international and European affairs, and George Boyne, in charge of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as Jiang Wenguo, the first Chinese winner of the Order of the British Empire, attended the meeting.

During the visit, Wang also visited the Confucius Institute¡¯s office and teaching venues and extended warm greetings to the Chinese students at Cardiff University.

After ten years of development, the Confucius Institute at Cardiff University has become an important platform for Chinese language teaching and the promotion of Chinese culture in Wales.
