Confucius Institute at Ricardo Palma University Holds 7th Anniversary Celebration

On November 9th, local time, the Confucius Institute at Ricardo Palma University celebrated its 7th anniversary with a grand gala evening at its culture center. Sr Rector Dr Iv¨¢n Rodr¨ªguez Ch¨¢vez, President of the university, Zhu Xiaoyan, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Peru and other guests attended the evening party.

In her speech, Zhu Xiaoyan stated that as a window and a bridge for Chinese language and culture exchanges, the Confucius Institute plays an active role for Peruvian people in learning the Chinese language and culture. It has also contributed a lot to promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Peru. She hoped that the Confucius Institute at Ricardo Palma University would continue its effort in developing China-Peru partnerships and promoting bilateral relations.

The party consisted of various performances, including singing, dancing, poetry recitation, playing of guzheng, bamboo flute and diabolo. At the party, the volunteer teachers presented some great shows. Their bamboo flute solo was euphonic and their diabolo show won high praise from the audience. The guzheng playing of Evening Singing in the Fisher Boat was elegant and beautiful. Huayno, a native dance from Peru¡¯s mountain areas, won thunderous cheers. What¡¯s more, the teachers at the Confucius Institute presented a novel fashion show: Splendid China. Dressed in cheongsam, holding in hands Chinese knots, oiled paper umbrellas and Chinese paintings with distinctive Chinese characteristics, the teachers appeared briskly in melodious music. Very much impressed, the audience exclaimed, ¡°Beautiful!¡±

In addition, students of the Confucius Institute also performed on the stage. Alice, this year¡¯s second prize winner of the ¡°Chinese Bridge¡± Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, presented the audience a beautiful dance. Students majoring in Chinese-Spanish translation sang to the guitar You Exist in My Song and Shape of You, winning a warm applause from the audience. Students from the dance team of Ricardo Palma University presented Puno, a Peruvian dance.

It is worth noting that the exchange students from Hebei Normal University also recited some poems and danced to the melodies The State of Rites, A Wrong Kite and Lingering Fragrance. The party ended with a chorus Loving Each Other by teachers from the Confucius Institute.

In his speech at the closing ceremony, Iv¨¢n Rodr¨ªguez Ch¨¢vez said that Ricardo Palma University would continue to support the Confucius Institute, and hoped that the Confucius Institute could play a greater demonstrative role and cultivate more and better professional translators.
